The McLaren F1 GT is the rarest of the rare—a homologation special born from the need for greater aerodynamic efficiency at Le Mans. While the original mod captured the silhouette, the driving experience lacked the raw, mechanical purity of the BMW-powered legend. This rework is a ground-up restoration of the F1 GT’s soul, transforming it from a floaty grand tourer into the high-downforce masterpiece it was engineered to be.

The “Unicorn” Rework Philosophy

Our goal was to strip away the “supercar” approximations and replace them with period-correct engineering. We’ve moved away from modern, over-assisted physics to capture the analog violence of the 1990s. This update focuses on the delicate interplay between the legendary BMW V12 and the extended “Longtail” bodywork, ensuring that every input feels as uncompromised as Gordon Murray intended.

Key Technical Changes in This Update

1. The BMW S70/2 V12 & Weismann Drivetrain

The powertrain has been recalibrated to mirror the specific torque curve of the 6.1L BMW S70/2.

• Torque Mapping: We’ve removed the “generic V12” power delivery. The S70/2 now features its signature low-end urgency and a soaring top-end, peaking at exactly the realistic spec.
• The Weismann Unit: The drivetrain logic has been rebuilt to simulate the unique Weismann 6-speed longitudinal gearbox. Shift delays, inertia, and mechanical whine have been tuned to reflect the heavy-duty nature of this transaxle.

2. Longtail Aerodynamics & Weight Balance

The GT’s extended rear deck isn’t just for show; it’s a functional aerodynamic lever.

• Downforce Parameters: Using historical data from the 1997 GT1 season, we’ve reworked the aero map. The “Longtail” now provides significantly more high-speed stability and rear-end suction than the standard F1, allowing for much higher corner entry speeds.
• Mass Centralization: We’ve tweaked the weight balance to reflect the central driving position and the specific mounting points of the S70/2 engine. The polar moment of inertia has been corrected, meaning the car rotates more naturally around the driver’s hips.

3. Period-Correct Suspension & Tires

• Geometry & Kinematics: The suspension layout has been completely rewritten to match the F1’s unique double-wishbone setup. We’ve eliminated the “floaty” mid-corner behavior, replacing it with the direct, communicative feedback of a non-power-steering rack.
• Compound Physics: We’ve moved away from modern “slick” approximations. The tires now use a period-correct compound that rewards smooth inputs and punishes over-driving with realistic thermal graining.

4. Visual & CSP Overhaul

The F1 GT now utilizes the full suite of the latest Custom Shaders Patch features.

• Material Fidelity: Every interior and exterior surface—from the high-temp engine bay gold foil to the Connolly leather in the cockpit—has been updated to PBR standards.
• Advanced Lighting: All lights have been reworked with real-time refractions and corrected emissives.
• Functional Details: Added fully animated, physics-synced wipers and overhauled cockpit gauges for 1:1 parity with the real-world dashboard.

• Required: Original 3D model from RTM Mods folder for the McLaren F1 GT.
• Included: Updated data.acd, extension (CSP), ui, and texture folders.
• Method: Backup your original rtm_mclaren_f1_gt folder. Drag and drop the new contents into your car directory and overwrite when prompted.

A Critical Reality Check

Its Possible that You are going to hate this car at first.

In our pursuit of realism, we’ve removed the safety net. Without power steering or modern ABS, the F1 GT requires a level of discipline that most modern sim-racers aren’t used to. If you lock the brakes or miss a heel-toe downshift, the reworked Weismann unit will let you know. This isn’t a “hop in and drive” mod anymore—it’s a machine that demands respect before it yields a lap time.
