Cadillac DPi-V-R – Freedom rework. Part of the AW Assetto Corsa Mods Collection.

There is something deeply satisfying about ripping out speculative physics, lazy copy-paste data, and default shaders, replacing them with raw mechanical authenticity.

The Cadillac DPi-V.R is an absolute titan of American sports car racing—a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated pushrod V8 shoehorned into a razor-sharp Italian Dallara chassis. But for too long, the virtual representations of this car in Assetto Corsa felt wrong. The engines behaved like turbo cars, the gearboxes used fantasy ratios, the aerodynamics felt floaty, and the visual assets belonged in 2016.

This Freedom Rework changes everything. Here is a complete breakdown of what went into rebuilding this prototype monster from the telemetry up.

Mechanical & Drivetrain Physics

  • 5.5L Naturally Aspirated V8 Power Curve: Engineered a completely authentic torque curve to match the ECR 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 under IMSA Balance of Performance constraints. No artificial turbo spikes, no dynamic boost trickery—just raw, linear American pushrod grunt with the exact restrictor-choked top-end drop-off past 7,200 RPM.
  • Xtrac P1159F Transmission Geometry: Rebuilt the 6-speed sequential gearbox using verified ratios directly from Xtrac documentation. Included two distinct, real-world gear ratio sets (short track sprint vs. high-speed endurance) to match specific track layouts.
  • Realistic Fuel Consumption: Calibrated burn rates based on real-world IMSA stint lengths, forcing proper fuel management strategy during endurance runs.
  • Big NA V8 Audio: Replaced the weak, generic audio profile with a visceral, high-displacement naturally aspirated V8 soundscape that rattles the rig.

Chassis, Aerodynamics & Tires

  • High-Downforce Suspension Geometry: Recalculated the front and rear suspension kinematics from scratch. Corrected anti-dive/anti-squat characteristics, spring rates, and damper curves to match a true high-downforce prototype chassis.
  • IMSA-Spec Aerodynamic Balance: Overhauled the aero map. Center-of-pressure shifts, ground effect sensitivity, pitch/ride-height dependency, and wing polar curves now strictly align with IMSA DPi homologation balance.
  • Bespoke Prototype Tire Physics: Constructed custom race tire compounds. High initial grip, sensitive thermal degradation, realistic cold-tyre tearing, and proper slip-angle response under severe downforce loads.
  • Weight & Inertia Distribution: Re-weighed the chassis to official IMSA dry minimum targets (~930 kg baseline) and corrected the polar moment of inertia to mirror the 45/55 rear-mid engine mass distribution.

Custom Shaders Patch & Visuals

  • CSP Digital Instrument Panel: Fully overhauled the digital dash using modern CSP functionality. Corrected gauge readouts, warning logic, shift light timing, and system status screens.
  • PBR Material Overhaul: Complete refresh of internal and external textures to the latest CSP PBR standards. Carbon fiber weaves now catch light properly, interior materials drops speculative shine, and glass materials feature realistic refraction.
  • Full Emissive Lighting: Added detailed emissive passes for both exterior endurance light setups (including night-race side number panels) and internal cockpit controls.
  • Wiper Animations & Effects: Created smooth, realistic wiper physics and animations for wet-weather driving.
  • BC7 Texture Optimization: All real-world livery skins resaved and compressed to BC7 format, dramatically reducing VRAM usage while eliminating compression artifacts.
  • Backfire & Flame Fixes: Fixed misplaced exhaust flame origins and timing to align with real-world deceleration backfires.

Infrastructure & Optimization

  • Custom 3D Physics Collider: Built a tight, accurate 3D collider mesh replacing the undersized box collider. No more getting stuck on high curbs or phantom wall contact.
  • Distant LODs: Moor1804 created optimized Level of Detail meshes (LOD B/C/D) to ensure high-grid online endurance races run smooth without FPS dips.
  • General Bugfixes: Cleaned up residual log errors, suspension alignment glitches, and legacy config flags.

This is no longer a generic fast car—it’s a physical, loud, demanding prototype that rewards precision and punishes sloppy inputs. Turn up the volume, map your brake bias, and take it for a stint.

Installation Requirements

  • Base Model: Model Is from FSR and is not included with data.
  • Method: Extract the contents into the fsr_cadillac_vr_dpi_grid folder, overwriting the data, extension, and ui folders if necessary.
  • Requirement: Latest version of Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) is highly recommended for the lighting and tire shader fixes.
