Il Mostro di Arese. Part of AW Assetto Corsa mods collection.
If the road-going Evoluzione is a masterclass in balance, the IMSA specification is that same engineering pushed to its absolute absolute limits. Built to dominate the Giro d’Italia and European Touring Car landscape, the IMSA variant stripped away every single compromise of the street car and replaced them with raw, competitive aggression.
This release is a special collaboration between Assetto Workshop (AW) and alfaworkshop, who graciously provided 3D base model. From there, AW took the car into the operating room for a complete architectural, mechanical, and visual overhaul. This isn’t just a skin change—it’s a data-first weapon built specifically for high-fidelity simulation.
The Surgical Physics Overhaul
- The Ultimate De Dion Execution At the rear sits a completely uncompromised racing implementation of the classic De Dion suspension tube layout. We have rebuilt the kinematics from scratch, mapping the exact wheel center paths, static camber gains, and the highly specific roll center behavior dictated by the race-spec Watt’s linkage. The result is a rear end that handles massive lateral loads while keeping the contact patch perfectly flat against the asphalt.
- Big Turbo, Brutal Torque Under the lightweight hood sits a highly tuned variant of the AR06158 core, breathing through a massive, unrestricted competition turbocharger. Forget linear modern power delivery—this engine is an authentic representation of 1980s motorsport. Expect distinct lag below the mid-range, followed by an explosive, violent surge of torque as the boost hits, forcing you to manage the rear tires actively with your right foot.
- Stripped Mass & Perfect Balance Every ounce of non-essential weight has been purged, resulting in a lightweight racing chassis. By optimizing the placement of internal components—including the rear-mounted transaxle unit and the stripped racing cell—the chassis achieves an optimized, near-perfect weight distribution that completely transforms how the car pivots compared to its road-going counterpart.
- Aerodynamic Downforce Map Unlike the standard road car, the IMSA variant features functional aerodynamic elements designed to slice through air and pin the chassis down. We have engineered a custom aero map that simulates real, measurable high-speed downforce. The front air dam and rear spoiler balance out the lift, giving you the stability needed to attack high-speed sweeps with confidence.
Analog Racing Inputs
- Period-Correct Race Slicks: The tires are modeled around historic racing slick compounds from the late 80s. They provide immense peak grip but feature a narrow slip-angle peak. They require heat to wake up, grease up if abused, and demand precise slip management to extract maximum pace.
- Pure Mechanical Braking (No ABS): True to its era, there are no electronic safety nets. The braking system requires deliberate modulation. Combined with the rear inboard brakes, stopping this machine from high speeds is a test of pure muscle memory and pedal discipline.
- 5-Speed Competition Drivetrain: The 5-speed manual gearbox features tightly stacked, aggressive racing ratios designed to keep the big turbo constantly in its power band. The lock percentages on the mechanical limited-slip differential have been optimized to handle track-duty corner exits without inducing terminal power-understeer.
Visual & Immersion Enhancements
We didn’t stop at the physics engine. The visual presentation has been heavily updated to meet current high-fidelity standards:
- Upscaled Interior Textures: The racing cockpit has been meticulously re-textured, upscaling the surfaces to bring out the raw grain of the dash, race instrumentation, and period fabric textures.
- Advanced CSP Light Models & Refractions: Every light lens and indicator cluster has been rebuilt to utilize advanced Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) features, adding realistic glass refractions and physically accurate light emission profiles.
- Dynamic Vibrations & Animations: Features a fully functional, realistic working wiper animation for foul-weather racing, alongside a custom-scripted shaking exhaust system that reacts dynamically to engine RPM and backfires.
- Material Enhancements: Subtle ambient occlusion tweaks and modernized material shaders across the exterior bodywork ensure metal, plastic, and carbon elements catch trackside light naturally.
The Hard Question: With the massive racing slicks masking the chassis roll until the turbo suddenly delivers full boost mid-corner, do you have the quick hands required to catch the rear end when it snaps? Or will the sheer mechanical momentum of that rear-mounted transaxle take over? Let us know your lap times in the comments below.
