Honda NSX VeilSide Tuning Legend Rework. Part of the AW Assetto Corsa Mods Collection.

The Honda NSX is arguably one of the most balanced mid-engine platforms ever devised. However, when Japanese tuning powerhouse Veilside applied their aggressive aesthetic philosophy to the car, many digital representations fell into a familiar trap: the physics files rarely matched the visual drama, often utilizing generic supercar templates that completely masked the car’s highly specific handling characteristics.

This update delivers a comprehensive, ground-up physics and visual overhaul designed to transition this tuning icon into a high-fidelity driving simulation. Every mechanical layer—from the high-revving naturally aspirated engine curve to the complex mid-engine kinematics—has been completely rewritten.

🛠️ Key Technical Changes in This Update

1. High-RPM Naturally Aspirated Engine Curve & Drivetrain

Instead of resorting to lazy forced-induction numbers to fill out the aggressive bodywork, this rework honors the pinnacle of high-revving Honda performance with a fully built, naturally aspirated specification.

  • 420 BHP Flywheel Profile: The engine files feature a completely bespoke, high-efficiency NA curve peaking at 420 bhp @ 8,500 RPM with 370 Nm of peak torque @ 6,500 RPM. The volumetric efficiency has been carefully linear-tapered past the peak, allowing for a functional, violent overrev range that stays highly usable all the way up to a crisp 9,000 RPM hard cut.
  • Lightly Modified Drivetrain: The factory 5/6-speed manual architecture remains intact but features realistic, period-correct upgrades. The factory clutch-type differential has been swapped for a high-performance plated setup to prevent inside-wheel spin under the load of the 420 hp curve, and gear ratios have been optimized to keep the engine dead center in its aggressive VTEC crossover window.

2. Tuned Suspension Geometry & Weight Correction

The mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive (MR) layout of the NSX demands precision. The stock car was famous for its intricate compliance toe characteristics; adjusting this for a lowered, track-tuned aftermarket stance required intensive recalculation.

  • Corrected Weight Distribution: The chassis files have been overhauled to reflect the exact mid-engine rear bias of the NSX. Center of Gravity (CoG) height has been recalibrated to factor in the lower ride height and wider track of the Veilside aero configuration.
  • Suspension Kinematics: The suspension geometry has been overhauled to emulate a high-end, corner-balanced coilover setup. Roll centers have been corrected to prevent the nervous “snap-oversteer” common in poorly configured mid-engine mods, rewarding clean trail-braking and smooth throttle application.

3. Brake Simulation & Dynamic Tire Physics

Stopping power and mechanical grip levels have been moved far past the early ’90s factory baselines to complement the chassis upgrades.

  • Tuned Brake Specification: The brake cooling, pedal travel, and pad friction coefficients have been updated to simulate an upgraded big-brake kit. Initial bite is sharp, and thermal threshold values have been raised significantly to eliminate premature brake fade during heavy track use.
  • Realistic Semi Slick (SM) Compound: A completely custom tire model has been generated. The new SM compound mimics a modern high-performance track-day tire, featuring a realistic slip-angle curve that gives progressive feedback right at the limit rather than breaking traction unpredictably.
  • Aero Rebalance: The aerodynamic lookup tables have been rebuilt. The distinctive Veilside bodywork changes the surface area profiles; the lift, drag, and downforce interactions have been rebalanced so the car remains stable at high speeds without artificially anchoring it to the tarmac.

🔧 Shaders Patch & Visual Refinements

To bring this legendary model cleanly into the modern Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) era, the visual layer has been extensively optimized:

  • Material Overhaul: Both interior and exterior textures have been converted to utilize the latest PBR (Physically Based Rendering) material specifications under CSP. Carbon surfaces, paint reflections, and cockpit fabrics now react dynamically to ambient environmental lighting.
  • Functional Animations & Fixes: Added fully working, physically animated windshield wipers, a dedicated driver shift animation sequence matching the manual gearbox, and completely corrected side-mirror reflection coordinates.
  • Lighting & Effects: Headlight beam geometry has been rewritten to cast accurate, glare-corrected patterns on the track surface. Additionally, exhaust flame behavior has been adjusted with proper thermal color scaling and ignition timing links.

🏁 Why This Rework Matters

A tuned Japanese icon shouldn’t drive like a generic modern supercar. By balancing a high-rpm, max-effort naturally aspirated engine curve with rigorous mid-engine suspension physics, this rework rescues the Veilside NSX from being a mere cosmetic novelty. It stands as a demanding, rewarding test of momentum management, throttle steering, and high-RPM gear precision.

Installation Requirements

  • Base Model: orig model by laymik Is required and needs to be installed first.
  • Method: Extract the contents into the content car’s folder, overwriting the data, extension, and ui folders.
  • Requirement: Latest version of Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) is highly recommended for the lighting and tire shader fixes.
