Nissan LMP2 Gibson 015S: The Open-Top Legend Rework

The Gibson 015S represents the peak of the “analogue” LMP2 era. Powered by the reliable and screaming Nissan V8, it was a favorite for privateer teams like Jota Sport and Greaves Motorsport. This rework ensures the car’s high-speed stability and mechanical grip reflect its real-world success, specifically targeting the performance levels seen in the 2015/2016 WEC and ELMS seasons.

The Heart of Nismo: VK45DE V8 Rework

We have meticulously recalibrated the 4.5L Naturally Aspirated V8 to match its peak development cycle:

  • Power & Torque Realism: Reworked to produce an authentic 480 bhp and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque. The engine curve now captures the distinct power delivery of the Nismo-tuned VK45, which rewards drivers who keep the engine singing between 6,000 and 8,500 RPM.
  • Aero-Dynamic Acceleration: By recalibrating the drag and lift coefficients, the car now achieves its realistic 0–100 km/h time of ~2.9 seconds, with acceleration profiles that match the telemetry data from the Mulsanne straight.
  • Drivetrain Adjustments: The 6-speed sequential gearbox has been updated with corrected gear ratios and shift timings to ensure the car reaches its top-speed potential of approximately 300+ km/h in Le Mans trim.

Suspension and Chassis: Open-Top Precision

The 015S was famous for being a “driver’s car” due to its mechanical predictability.

  • Suspension Overhaul: We have reworked the damping and spring rates to remove the “floaty” feel of the original Assetto Garage mod. The car is now more stable under heavy braking and less prone to bottoming out during high-speed compression in sections like the Porsche Curves.
  • Aero Balance: Rebalanced the downforce map to match the specific characteristics of the Gibson’s updated bodywork. The front-end bite is now more pronounced, allowing for the aggressive turn-in typical of LMP2 prototypes.
  • Tire Tweaks: Updated to modern prototype tire standards, providing more realistic thermal behavior and a wider operating window for long endurance stints.

Technical & AI Improvements

  • AI Calibration: The AI has been completely retuned to understand the Gibson’s unique braking zones and cornering speeds. They are now much more competitive in multi-class grids, especially when navigating traffic.
  • Graphics & Bugfixes: Added custom extension tweaks to improve material shaders for the open cockpit and corrected minor mesh glitches. The 3D collider has also been updated to prevent “phantom” hits with curbs.

Installation Requirements

Note: This physics and graphics configuration is designed for compatibility with the Assetto Garage model.

  • Required: A valid installation of the base model by Assetto Garage is required to apply these technical updates.
  • Included: The 7z archive contains the updated dataextensionui, and previews.
  • Method: Replace the folders in your content/cars/gibson_015s_nissan directory.
