Napier-Railton: The “Brooklands Special” Rework

Driving the Napier-Railton is a battle against momentum. This overhaul emphasizes the massive torque of the W12 aero engine and the primitive nature of its 1930s mechanicals.

The Napier Lion XIED: 24 Liters of Fury

The heart of this machine is an aircraft engine. We have recalibrated the power delivery to match the legendary W12 “broad-arrow” configuration:

  • Engine & Torque Rework: Calibrated to an authentic 530 bhp @ 2,500 rpm. While the horsepower might seem “low” by modern standards, the torque is monumental—nearly 1,500 Nm (1,100 lb-ft). The engine now pulls like a freight train from idle, making gear selection almost secondary to throttle management.
  • Low-Rev Dynamics: Simulated the massive internal inertia of the 24,000cc powerplant. The engine is slow to rev and slow to settle, requiring the driver to anticipate every shift and throttle input.
  • Drivetrain Durability: Adjusted the 3-speed gearbox to reflect the heavy, mechanical engagement of the period.

Handling: Managing Two Tons of Momentum

The Napier-Railton weighs approximately 2,050 kg (4,500 lbs) and features rear-wheel-only braking.

  • The Braking Challenge: This is the most critical update. We have modeled the rear-only mechanical drum brakes. You must now brake significantly earlier than in any other car in Assetto Corsa. Overcooking an entry into a corner is usually terminal, as the front wheels have zero stopping power.
  • Suspension & Mid-Corner Stability: Reworked the leaf-spring suspension to reduce mid-corner wheelspin. By softening the initial rebound and adjusting the rear roll center, the car is now more composed over the bumps of tracks like Brooklands or Goodwood, allowing the massive rear tires to find purchase.
  • Aero Drag: Adjusted the $C_d$ to match the unfaired, high-drag reality of the 1933 body, ensuring the car struggles realistically against the air as it approaches its 270 km/h (168 mph) top speed.

Visual & Technical Polish

  • Extension Metallic Shine: Custom ext_config.ini tweaks for CSP have been added to give the unpainted aluminum body a deeper metallic luster. The “brushed” effect is now more reactive to sun position and track lighting.
  • Exhaust & Heat: Enhanced the visual effects for the massive side-exit exhausts.
  • General Bugfixes: Corrected the fuel consumption (the Lion engine is thirsty!) and fixed the steering wheel rotation to match the slow, heavy ratio of the original car.

Installation Requirements

Note: This physics and graphics configuration is designed for compatibility with the Legion model.

  • Required: A valid installation of the base model by Legion is required to apply these technical updates.
  • Included: The 7z archive contains updated dataextension, and ui folders.
  • Method: Replace the folders in your content/cars/legion_napier_railton directory.
