Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 Kompressor: The Vario-Roadster Rework
This physics overhaul transforms the SLK from a cruiser into a capable back-road companion. We have meticulously recalibrated the engine to reflect the “Twinpulse” technology, providing that immediate, low-end torque that defines the Kompressor experience.
The Kompressor I4: Supercharged Response
We have remapped the engine (focusing on the facelift R170 and early R171 specs) to ensure the power curve is authentic:
- Engine Power & Torque: Re-tuned to produce 163 hp @ 5,500 rpm and 230–240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque available as low as 2,500 rpm. The torque curve is now flat and punchy, simulating the mechanical supercharger’s immediate response compared to a turbo.
- Drivetrain Rework: Adjusted for the 6-speed Getrag manual transmission (replacing the sluggish 5-speed logic found in older mods). Gear ratios have been corrected to match factory specs, ensuring a realistic 0–100 km/h in 7.9–8.2 seconds.
- Engine Braking: Refined the coasting resistance to reflect the mechanical drag of the supercharger belt system.
Chassis & Dynamics: “Tiny Car” Agility
At roughly 1,300–1,390 kg, the SLK is compact but needs precise damping to avoid feeling “floppy.”
- Suspension Geometry: Reworked the three-link front and multi-link rear suspension. The car now has better body control under cornering loads, removing the excessive “boating” sensation while maintaining Mercedes’ signature ride quality.
- Tire Tweaks: Updated to modern street-performance compounds (205/55 R16). The tires now have more realistic lateral slip angles, making the car feel more communicative through the steering wheel.
- Aero Balance: Re-calibrated the $C_d$ to 0.32. We’ve adjusted the lift coefficients so the car feels stable at its top speed of 230 km/h, preventing the front end from becoming “light” on the highway.
Visual & Technical Polish
- Graphics Enhancement: Added a custom
ext_config.inifor CSP to improve the look of the instrument cluster and interior wood/aluminum textures. - Roof Logic: Ensured the Vario-Roof animations (if supported by the 3D model) are synced with the correct physics centers of gravity.
- General Bugfixes: Corrected the wheel track widths and center of gravity height to prevent the car from feeling prone to tipping during high-G transitions.
