Koenigsegg Regera: The “Direct Drive” Overhaul

The Regera isn’t just about the 1,500 hp; it’s about how that power is delivered through the Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) system. This overhaul focuses on the interaction between the ICE, the battery, and the three YASA electric motors.

The KDD Powertrain: No Shifts, No Interruption

We have completely rewritten the drivetrain logic to move away from traditional “geared” physics:

  • Single-Speed Driveline: Modeled the authentic 2.73:1 final drive. The car no longer “shifts”; instead, it uses a hydraulic coupling (HydraCoup) that slips at low speeds and locks at ~50 km/h, providing a seamless surge of power to 400+ km/h.
  • Hybrid Specs & Torque Fill: * ICE: 1,100 hp 5.0L Twin-Turbo V8.
    • Electric: Three YASA motors providing 700 hp.
    • Combined: A staggering 1,500 hp and 2,000 Nm of torque. The electric motors now accurately “fill” the torque gap at low speeds before the turbos and ICE reach their peak efficiency.
  • Performance Benchmarks: Tested and verified to match the 0–400 km/h in under 20 seconds and the 2023 world-record 0–400–0 km/h run of 28.81 seconds.

Dynamics: Managing the Megacar

  • Aerodynamics: Calibrated the active top-mounted rear wing and front flaps. The car now produces 450 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, ensuring stability without the excessive drag that plagued the original mod.
  • Tire Simulation: Reworked for Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The Regera remains on its “traction limit” from 0 up to 270 km/h, requiring a smooth throttle finger despite the sophisticated electronic aids.
  • Weight Distribution: Fixed the curb weight to 1,590 kg, with the battery and electric motors positioned centrally to maintain a low polar moment of inertia.

Visual & Technical Polish (PBR Update)

  • Extension Config PBR: The entire car has been re-materialized. The carbon fiber weaves, interior Alcantara, and polished metals now use high-fidelity PBR (Physically Based Rendering) for a modern, high-end look.
  • Night Driving Optimization: Adjusted the luminosity and throw patterns of the “Constellation” headlights. The DRLs and main beams are now functional for 24-hour racing without blinding the driver in the cockpit.
  • General Bugfixes: Fixed the “infinite battery” glitch and corrected the hybrid regeneration rates under braking (up to 150 kW).
