Technical Preview: Bringing Professional F1 DRS Regulations to Assetto Corsa
At Assetto Workshop, we are constantly pushing the limits of the Assetto Corsa engine. Today, we are excited to announce a major breakthrough in our physics development: the first-ever Integrated F1 DRS Logic Script.
This project represents a leap forward in race weekend authenticity, moving beyond simple visual mods and into the realm of true professional-grade simulation.
Developing the Future of Race Logic
Modern Formula 1 isn’t just about aerodynamics; it’s about the electronic management of those systems. Our team, with the technical assistance of Gemini AI, has engineered a lightweight but powerful Lua-based logic core that manages DRS for the entire grid—including the AI—based on real-world FIA regulations.
What Makes This Script Unique?
Unlike standard game mechanics, our upcoming script acts as a “Virtual Race Director,” enforcing rules that were previously impossible to simulate accurately in Assetto Corsa:
- The Lap 3 Threshold: To simulate the stabilization of the pack, DRS is electronically locked for both player and AI until the start of Lap 3.
- Precision Gap Detection: The script performs real-time telemetry checks. If a car is more than 1.0 second behind the driver ahead, the DRS system remains inactive, forcing tactical driving and careful energy management.
- Dynamic Weather Override: If the circuit becomes wet, the script automatically triggers a “Safety Protocol,” disabling DRS across the board to mirror real-world wet-weather race conditions.
- Session-Specific Behavior: The system is intelligent enough to allow unrestricted DRS use during Practice and Qualifying, giving you the freedom to chase the ultimate lap record.
Engineering Excellence & Efficiency
One of our primary goals was ensuring that this deep level of simulation didn’t come at the cost of hardware performance. Through rigorous testing and optimization, our logic runs seamlessly on a full 22-car grid with no measurable performance loss.
Release Information
This Advanced DRS Logic is currently in the final stages of internal testing here at Assetto Workshop. We are fine-tuning the integration to ensure it is “plug-and-play” with our upcoming vehicle reworks.
We plan to release this script to the public in the near future. Stay tuned to our blog for the official launch date and installation guide.
