At Assetto Workshop, our mods often include deep physics reworks, custom ext_config files, and 3D model adjustments to enable features like wiper animations and realistic colliders. Because of these technical complexities, we strictly recommend manual installation.
While Content Manager (CM) is a powerful tool, its automatic “drag-and-drop” installer can occasionally skip files or fail to overwrite existing data correctly.
Why Manual Installation?
- Data Integrity: Ensures every
.lut(lookup table) and.inifile is placed exactly where the engine needs it. - CSP Compatibility: Correctly installs Custom Shaders Patch configurations for enhanced graphics.
- Physics Accuracy: Prevents “ghost” physics from old versions of the mod from interfering with our new reworks.
Step-by-Step Manual Installation
1. Prepare your Files
Download the mod file from our site. Our files are typically compressed in .7z format to keep download sizes small. You will need a tool like 7-Zip or WinRAR to extract them.
2. Locate your Assetto Corsa Root Folder
You need to find where the game is installed on your PC. By default, the path is:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa
Tip: If you can’t find it, right-click Assetto Corsa in your Steam Library > Manage > Browse local files.
3. Access the Cars Directory
Navigate to the following sub-folder:content/cars
4. The “Copy and Overwrite” Method
- Open your extracted mod folder. You should see a folder named after the car (e.g.,
aw_dallara_stradale). - Drag this folder directly into your
content/carsdirectory. - Crucial Step: If a window pops up asking if you want to “Replace the files in the destination,” click YES. Our reworks must replace the original data to function correctly.
5. Verification
Open Content Manager. If installed correctly, the car will appear in your list. We recommend clicking the “Analyze” button at the bottom of the car’s page in CM to ensure no files are missing and the ext_config.ini is active.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
“Game crashes on load”: Re-verify the manual installation. Often, this is caused by a folder-inside-a-folder error (e.g., cars/car_name/car_name). Ensure the file structure is flat.
“Car is missing sound”: This usually happens if the original mod (required for some reworks) wasn’t installed first. Ensure you follow the specific requirements listed on each car’s download page.
“Wipers not working”: Ensure you have a recent version of Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) installed. Many of our visual fixes require CSP version 0.1.79 or higher.
